China in Africa was founded by Merlin Linehan, after studying Anthropology at University; he worked for a start-up company which installed water treatment equipment in remote parts of Africa and Asia. He then decided he wanted to work in banking, and completed a Masters in Finance at the School of Oriental and African Studies, eventually going on to work as an analyst, and then as a consultant for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Realising he wanted to combine his passions for African politics and business, he started China in Africa.
